Played 2 to 3 times a week back in college ('89-'91). Played less than 6 rounds in the interim. Started back playing 1st week of August 2007. Introduced it to my kids (11yo boy & 9yo girl) and they LOVE it!

Woo-Hoo!!

Absolutely BLEW it at Sycamore Trails today. There was NO middle ground. I either shot an AWESOME hole or added 6 strokes to my par . . . nothing in between. I'm exaggerating of course, but it sure FELT like that was the case. I DID get a birdie (on #16), but also shot three double-bogeys and one TRIPLE bogey. Yes, it WAS terribly windy and it WAS Sycamore, but I don't want to make any LAME excuses. I stunk today. Interestingly, it was on the heels of my BEST 18 ever . . . Oh, by the way, they MOVED #4 pin farther out (as IF it NEEDED to be more difficult . . . crazy people!). #6 and #8 are at different pin positions also.

No good @#$%&*!

BLAST IT!! I shot my best 18 at Indian Riffle (+6, 60), which is awesome, BUT I WANTED to break 60! I was SO stinking CLOSE (AGAIN!) and SHANKED a putt on my final hole (#5). Dad-burn-it!! Shot a 63 on Belmont the other night, so my AVERAGE is getting more consistently under 65. It's always good to set goals for yourself, but not to the point that you learn to hate the game. I'm CERTAINLY not THERE yet (a BAD day disc-golfing STILL beats ANY day at work . . . hands down!). Havin' fun 'Chasin the chains' . . . BkR

Gulley "Treasures"

Posted by streborkb September 29th, 2007. Discuss

Played Gulley Park for the first time on Wednesday. I agree with reviews that it's a well laid out course. I do recommend long pants if you have a tendency to need to look for your disc - there's plenty of thorns if you get off into the woods. Due to the park being quite rural we discovered a few "treasures" during our round in the form of woodland creatures. We saw a big (big around as a basketball, certainly not as tall) turtle in the fairway on #1, spooked a cottontail bunny on hole #3 and nearly stepped on a snake crossing the fairway on hole #7. All in all, it's a very good course. Nice mix of open and wooded, technical and 'air it out' holes.

Working the front nine

Shot a 28 on the front nine of Turtlecreek with my kids. Even had a birdie on hole 2. That's the third 28 (+1) and one 29 (+2) on different sets of nine in the last two weeks. Working HARD to make it UNDER par on nine . . . I'm SO close. With practice, it'll come.

Best 18 ever

Posted by streborkb September 16th, 2007. Discuss

Shot my best 18 since getting back involved just over a month ago. Shot a 61 at Indian Riffle in Kettering. Would have been even better but had to take a penalty shot for water landing on hole 17. I was hoping to break 60, but no such luck. It's not a phenomenal score but certainly an improvement over my mid to upper 70's scores from early August. It seems that practicing my forehand has also tightened up my backhand a bit (more consistent, stable, accurate). Still in the 'testing' phase of my form, so the improvements in score are exciting considering the 'experimental' state of my game.
