cburke says "Big Buckeye at Broughton is an interesting course. I have to wonder what the designers could have done with a little more space to work with. As it is, this is a run of the mill Par 54 course with a s...moreeveral interesting holes; there are some layout issues that detract from the fun of the course though.
This course is not overly difficult. Several types of shots will be needed to do well, as well as some good shot placement and distance judgment. The first six holes are in the open. Water hazards could come into play to the left of the first five holes. There are some standout holes following the first six however. Hole Seven is an interesting hole, an over 300' downhill par three. Hole Eleven has you shooting over the side of a bank at around 250'. Holes Fourteen through Sixteen are located on the side of a hill in the woods and offer a nice break from the mostly open layout and lack of obstacles. Every hole is a par 3 and most should not have trouble getting each hole in par. There are many birdie opportunities.
There are decent facilities if you plan on playing a few rounds. There are portable restrooms set up on a concrete slab, which I assume means they are permanent. A small pavilion is located next to the first hole and it has a fire pit next to it. There are some picnic tables under the pavilion which offer a nice place to take a break and eat between rounds.
As far as bringing the family goes, there isn't much in the way for people who do not play disc golf to do. Apparently there is a nature trail although I didn't see it.
I played a round at 2PM on a Tuesday and didn't see anyone else there. I don't believe that this course sees much action because the tees are natural and after a couple years of play are in pretty good condition. I wouldn't imagine that you would have to wait very long to play on this course.
The scenery isn't terrible, but it doesn't have the beautiful scenery of some of the better Ohio Disc Golf courses. The first few holes are located next to Highway 821 and there is some traffic noise. Some of the holes are near people's homes; the wooded holes do provide some decent scenery however. If you're looking for beautiful vistas and grand scenery, the actual course itself has little to offer.
Overall I gave this course three baskets because it is an average course. It is kept in good order, the grass is mowed on the fairway and the baskets are new. It isn't terribly difficult, but it's nice to see a new course in Southeastern Ohio as there are few in this area....less"
