Hello All,

I just want to introduce everybody that reads this to the newest Disc Golf Course in Ohio as of 10-10-2006. It is located in Lorain County at Findley State Park.

My wife and I approached the park throughout the past year and they have been curious about disc golf. After many discussions and demonstrations, the park finally agreed to help make our wish of having a disc golf course in Lorain County a reality.

The park has 900 acres which surround a beautiful lake which offers fishing, camping, excellent mountain bike trails, small boat rentals, concession stands and awesome wildlife. While developing this course, so far we have seen a family of wild turkeys along with deer, squirrels, families of buzzards which roost near hole 1, and monkeys. (just kidding about the monkeys).

The course is 9 holes which feature the DB5 baskets from lightning. They're a heavy-duty, hot-dipped galvanized basket which catch great and have a great sound when the putts are hitting. The course is relatively short but very technical.

I grew up and was introduced to disc golf in Medina Ohio, on the original 9-hole course before it became 18 holes and to me, Roscoe has always been an inspiring course. I wanted to bring back some of that old short course mentality to our sport where it requires skill and technique to deuce out. Every hole is aceable. Every hole is deucable. Every hole is par-able. And I have even seen every hole bogeyed. Afterall, it is a golf course and anything can happen.

Holes 1 and 2 are in an open field measuring 255 feet and 225 feet respectively.

Hole 3 is a bit tricky to find the 1st time, but after you play it, you'll find your way around relatively easily. From Hole 2 just head north on the main road just as you were to walk out of the park for about 300 yards. At which point, on the right, you will see hole 3 teepad. Every hole from here on out is heavily wooded requring "just the right touch" shot.

Hole 6 is a mandatory route. You must go through 2 trees identified with arrows to complete the hole. If you pass the two trees without going through them, you must pick up your disc and throw from between those 2 trees. Don't forget to add a stroke!

I generally play the course with a Roc, Cobra and a putter.

Bring some food to grill and make a day of it. The campground is sweet and the course has grills nearby and picnic tables. Plenty of parking.

I will keep you posted on our upcoming Sunday morning doubles starting every Sunday at 11:00 a.m. and tournaments.

Stop on by and check it out.

take care,

Tim

Is there any chance that it could be made into an 18 hole course seeing as though there is plenty of land?

Mark,

The answer is yes. It could be turned into an 18 hole course eventually. I was instrumental in putting in the current 9 holes mostly by myself and at this point, I am looking for more help from volunteers interested in making this course grow.

You can visit the findleystatepark.org website and shoot them an email and any feedback/criticism. They're new to disc golf and would like continuing input and ideas.

This course is SWEET!!! Whoever designed hole #8 is sick and twisted. Prob the hardest short hole I've evr played. Lots of great little features that I think will keep alot of new golfers in the Southern Lorain County area coming back for more.

If you don't mind me asking, how did you install the DB5s?
We are getting DB5s in for our new course and had really only speculated on how exactly we were going to install them.
We were planning on sinking sleeves in concrete not using the base and making them removable..but I've also seen an example where someone sank an eyebolt in concrete and padlocked the base to the eyebolt.

Dave,

I sent you an email with some pictures. Hope this helps.

The method we used was much easier and less labor intensive than the above mentioned methods.

Where is your disc golf course going to be located?
