Talk to people about Forked Run State Park.

Here's what people are saying...

Has anyone been to Forked Run recently? They've been clearing trees and thick bush to give the right of way clearance for those overhead cables the last few weeks and I was there today with my family to play a round.

There's both the good and bad thing that came out from it. The good thing is that, they've cleared the thick bush around several places where a stray throw would go, such as holes #6, 7 and 16 (between 6 and 16). The bad thing is that it's made #7 a bit lesser challenging, especially from the blue tees. I thought it was a bit overdone and wondered why it wasn't taken into effect? I'm hoping that they're done cutting down all those trees.

As far as I know, nothing has been set up yet for spring and summer at Forked Run yet. I'd expect the club to have another 24 hr marathon again this year unless someone says differently.

To answer your question regarding the course, no they weren't destroying the course. Just cleared up the rough on certain parts of the park, especially under and around all these power lines. The only thing that's affected in a major way is Hole #7 off the blue tee. There's now a much clearer view of the basket at Pins A and B. Also it made the throw to Pin C a bit lesser challenging for those who can reach it, especially left of the trees in front of the basket.

2 AEP guys were there cleaning up some of the cut brush when we were there last week and i talked to one. he said they were cleaning up the entire park for the power line right of ways. he understood our wanting the #6 hole a bit harder but had to do it that way and hopes not to have to come back for about 6-8 years. they had been cleaning around athens and he stated it looked as though that had not been done in over 15 years and was in terrible shape. we noticed they have cleaned on the roads in and around the area also and all looks much better. maybe the pin can be moved to an alternate place now to make it tougher in some way. there have been several trees cut where #19 was before across the road from the parking area but think those trees were dying anyway. again-the bad part there is--those trees made the play more challenging. hey! i wuz gonna complain a bit more to the aep guy but he was about 6'7" so i complimented him on the job. ha

Forked Run now has 21 holes and multi [3,4, or 5] pin placements for each hole. It plays longer and harder plus Scott is still hoping to get at least 1 more hole early this year. Ya'all come on down now, ya hear?

It is ALOT more challenging now, in my opinion. But my friends and I still make the trip from Athens frequently when the weather is nice.
