Review
When I first started playing DG back in 1988 for the grand total of 5 times. I was hooked then but lost touch with those that got me started. Last year 2007 I get back into the game/sport at Freedlander Park and was rehooked really bad now. The course is still being groomed for improvements as we can get things done financially. With the current exception of the numerous dead trees and branches on the courses front 9 holes (to be corrected this spring hopefully for safety reasons and estetic reasons as well.) I was offered a challenge from the start. It makes for a great recreational course as well as a challenge for the non-recreational players as well. With the variety of obstacles between the tee's and baskets provide an excellent way to hone the technical short throws and hone yourself.
I have witnessed over this past summer people of all ages from 4 yr olds to senior citizens playing this course and they all seemed to be enjoying the game/sport, they all had regular recreational frisbee's playing and had no clue about anything else until they asked questions from us players.
The course like many others still needs help with the directions to the next tee's etc. but that is always a constant struggle with vandals and course neglect.
The Dover Ohio course to me has set a new standard for course navigation and I hope many other courses follow the same idea and implement them. I would like to see similar course navigational signs added to help those that are new to the game/sport.
The tee's both long and short need to be more clearly marked in a more permanent way for the same reasons above.
I know that with the club members help and the park directors help the improvements can be done this summer.
The course and club members have been striving for honesty and sincerity with lost disc returning. We don't want to have the course get a bad rep because of those that are dishonest and not returning or making an effort to return lost discs.
A lost and found box will be in place this spring to help return lost discs to the rightful owners. Come on guys we all pay for the discs we use and by returning what is not yours it helps improve the integrity of the game/sport.
